The Nokia C2-03 is one of those uncommon handsets that can operate with two SIM cards simultaneously. Why would one need such a feature? Well, there are plenty of folks around the world who use multiple phones, be it for having separate personal and work lines, or for simply using the services of two carriers at the same time. These are the people the C2-03 is aimed at as it spares them the trouble carrying around that second handset might be.

Other than that, there is nothing special about the Nokia C2-03 as it is merely a modest feature phone powered by the Series 40 platform. It offers a 2.6-inch resistive touchscreen display, basic 2-megapixel camera, 2G connectivity, and a slide-out numeric keypad.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc

Sony Ericsson's original Xperia X10 was a brave first go at an Android phone, offering a large screen, a collection of social media enhancements and a stylised version of Google's rapidly growing mobile operating system.

However, the X10 was hindered by delays, held back by glitchy software and arrived running the already ageing Android 1.6 – and only received an update to 2.1 recently. It was, to put it mildly, a bit of a mess.

You can check out our Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc video review:

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc obliterates all of those awkward memories in a flash. It's running the very latest Android 2.3.2 version of the OS. It's arrived on time. It's fast, and it's very, very stylish indeed.

Sony ericsson xperia arc review

And it's not that expensive for a single-core Android phone in 2011 at £430 SIM free or £30 per month on contract – can Sony Ericsson's Reality Display, Bravia Engine and Exmor R buzzwords win pocket space in today's extremely crowded Android marketplace?

First impressions are that the Xperia Arc is unbelievably, impossibly thin. It's also flared slightly around the back, giving the rear of the phone a slightly fatter top and bottom. And it's light, too – a mere 117g. The rival Google Nexus S weighs in at 129g. How it has all been squeezed in is a mystery.

The solid-feeling 4.2-inch screen fills much of the front of the phone, with only a few millimetres of bezel to the left and right. The handset itself is only marginally longer than the old HTC Desire – and is significantly slimmer. In fact, you get an HTC Desire HD-sized screen in the body of a much smaller, slimmer phone.

But you only get Sony Ericsson's standard selection of three physical buttons – Back, Home and Menu – in reverse order to how they featured in the X10. That will mess with the minds of upgraders. The buttons are solid silvery plastic, plus there's a piercing white LED light shining through the gaps between them to help guide your thumbs in the dark.

The top of the phone features an HDMI output hidden behind a little dust stopper, plus a tiny power button. The power button is recessed to stop accidental presses – but so tiny it can be a little hard to find. It's a fingernail job and a bit of a pain. There's also a proximity sensor, which shuts off the screen when it's pressed to your ear.

The left edge features the 3.5mm headphone jack, while the right-hand edge houses the micro-USB, a small volume up/down rocker and a physical camera button near the bottom.

Sony ericsson xperia arc review

The back of the Xperia Arc is simple, with its curved case lending it quite an air of style. We've been using this one for over a week, and still keep picking it up to marvel at how thin it is.

Turn the screen on and it's bright and sharp. Icons are clear and well defined thanks to Sony Ericsson's Reality Display technology, whatever that may be, with nothing in the way of pixilation on show.

It's not quite as sharp as the superb display of the iPhone 4, but is easily on a par with the sharp output of the Samsung Galaxy S' gorgeous Super AMOLED screen.

The screen is very usable outdoors in direct light – you don't even have to max the brightness to read text while outside. It's a lovely piece of hardware to have. Sony Ericsson officially announced the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S today. The new smartphone is the tweaked version of the well-known Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc and will be already in sale in Q4 2011.

The new smartphone has a number of improvements if compared with its earlier version. I’m speaking about the 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 processor (instead the old 1GHz CPU) and the possibility of capturing 3D images.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S runs Android 2.3.4 OS and has a 4.2-inch capacitive touchscreen with 854 x 480 pixels resolutions. It is equipped with Reality Display backed by Mobile Bravia Engine.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S comes with an 8.1 rear-facing MP camera with LED flash. It has a support for 720 video recording and 3D sweep panorama mode.

The other features of the device include WiFi, aGPS, Bluetooth, a HDMI output and a micro USB port.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S has 320MB of onboard storage and microSD card slot. This gives you a chance to enlarge the memory of your device up to 8GB.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S will be available in 5 nice colors such as Pure White, Misty Silver, Midnight Blue, Gloss Black and Sakura Pink.  As for the dimensions, they are as follows: 125 x 63 x 8.7 mm, and the weight is 117 grams.

Sony Ericsson Arc Specification:
  •     Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
  •     1 GHz Scorpion processor
  •     8 GB of memory
  •     4.2-inch large screen
  •     Sony's "Exmoor-R" sensor
  •     LED flash and touch focus
  •     Multi-touch input method
Description
It comes with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and has a 1 GHz Scorpion processor, 512 MB RAM, 8.1 megapixel camera. The phone has an HDMI output, so it is possible to set it to your TV (such as. In connection with images or videos you've recorded), microUSB, WiFi, GPS, all 8 GB of memory and other standard features you would expect of a mobile as the Arc from SE.

Xperia ARC Display: The 4.2 "large screen uses Sony's new" Reality Display "technology, which is probably most of all be said to be their take on Apple's" Retina ". It works really well, and combined with Mobile Bravia (also from Sony, which you might recognize the name from their TVs) you get excellent black level (black) and good colors.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc camera: The mobile phone equipped with an excellent 8.1 megapixel camera. The camera uses Sony's "Exmoor-R" sensor technologies to enhance the sensitivity which gives much better pictures in low light (ie. In the evening). This combined with a 2.4 lens gives a better picture in indoor environments than many competitors' models.

You also get autofocus, LED flash and touch focus, which means that you simply touch the screen where you want the phone to focus. Additionally, the image stabilizer, geo-tagging (using the GPSen) and smile & face.

Sony Ericsson Xperia neo V

Sony Ericsson has finally brought its new Android smartphone known as the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V to the US. All the interested ones can find the smartphone unlocked at Sony’s US online store at the price of $349.99. By the way today begins the estimated ship of the smartphone.
I do not know whether the fans of the Sony Ericsson would like to pay $349.99 for a smartphone, which has a 3.7-inch touchscreen display the resolution of which is 854 x 480 pixels and is equipped with a rear-facing 5MP camera with LED flash and 720p HD video recording and a front-facing VGA camera. The other features of the smartphone include a microSD card slot, and a 1500mAh battery.

You may know that the market is full of high-end smartphones, some of which come with quad-core processors, but I am sure that the fans of Sony Ericsson will remain devoted their favorite mobile brand and will choose the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V.  They will not take into account the fact that the smartphone is based on a 1GHz single-core processor and runs Android 2.3, while the other smartphones are going to get 4.0 Android Ice Sandwich update.

Hope Sony Ericsson will understand that its Xperia Neo V is not that smart one and will do some actions to correct its mistakes.
As for the memory the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V has 512MB RAM, 320MB of onboard memory. And among the connectivity features are WiFi, 7.2 Mbps HSDPA, 5.76 Mbps HSUPA, and Bluetooth.
This is my point. Whether the price is good or not, I leave it to your discretion.
We are not fond of promoting Sony Ericsson Xperia phones because they are apparently not too fond of bloggers writing about their products, but this one is a bit too good to pass up.

  •     Android OS (Android 2.3 Gingerbread)
  •     3.7-inch (480 x 854) LCD
  •     1 GHz Scorpion processor, Adreno 205 GPU, Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon
  •     512MB RAM
  •     320MB internal storage expandable up to 32GB via MicroSD card
  •     5MP autofocus primary camera with LED flash and 720p video recording
  •     VGA secondary camera
  •     WiFi/Bluetooth/Micro USB
  •     HDMI Out
  •     HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps
  •     1500 mAh battery

A little more internal storage would have been good to accommodate operating system upgrades, but at Php13,400 from CMK Cellphones we are not going to complain too much.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia neo V has a slower processor than the Samsung Galaxy W i8150 we looked at two days ago, less internal storage and a slower 3G radio. It is also chubbier and heavier than the the Samsung Galaxy W i8150. Now lets go to the good points.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia neo V has the nice crisp display thanks to the Bravia engine, it has HDMI, a 3D sweep Panorama mode in the camera out and in my opinion a much cooler looking case.

This is one of those phones that amazes me with how far your peso goes these days.

Samsung Galaxy W i8150

Samsung Galaxy W i8150 Smartphone Price in the Philippines, Features and Other Details: We take a more discerning look at the Samsung Galaxy W and share with you our impressions of the handset. Read on for the full details.

Design and construction

The flagship device of Korean smartphone and tablet manufacturer Samsung as of the moment is the monster of a superphone Samsung Galaxy S2 / S II. And for good reason. The device has a massive screen and is very ferocious in terms of the components under its hood. It also comes with a price tag that might leave you a miser so if you want something more affordable and yet very capable, the Samsung Galaxy W is a very viable option.

In general, most of Samsung smartphones never got their aesthetics right and almost all of them look like they have been slashed off a block of black plastic. Even the mighty Galaxy S II falls prey to this and the Galaxy W is no exception either. The handset measures 115.5 x 59.8 x 11.5 mm and weighs in at 109.9 grams. With these numbers, the Galaxy W effectively puts itself in the middle grounds – not so thick, not so thin either. It is a lightweight though if you check how it tips the balance.

As for its construction, Samsung boasts of giving its handsets a well-built quality and feel and this is also a given in the cast of the Galaxy W. The whole front panel of the handset is covered in glass but its edges are plastic that pack brushed metal look. The back panel of the handset on the other hand is done in a matte black finish with dimple stampings to make it even easier to grip.

The right edge of the Galaxy W houses the lock button of the Galaxy W while its left flank contains the volume rocker. At the top edge of the device, we see its microUSB port and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Despite the well-built quality that the Galaxy W packs, critics might still find the handset a bit cheap-looking because of the type of materials used in its construction. Well, I guess you just really can’t please everybody can you?

Under the hood

As mentioned earlier, though not as ferocious as the Galaxy S II when it comes to the internals that line up its guts, the Galaxy W is still a very capable handset that packs enough punch under the hood to get everything done in a snappy manner.

The handset is based on the Snapdragon platform and packs a QualComm MSM8255T SoC chipset right smack in the middle of its circuitry to ensure that every component in and around the chipset is doing what it is supposed to. In terms of its CPU, the Galaxy W has a single-core 1.4GHz Scorpion processor tasked to come up with the required computing power of the handset while a dedicated Adreno 205 graphics chip makes certain that all graphical matters are handled pretty well.

In terms of its system memory, the processor of the Galaxy W works in conjunction with 512 MB of RAM that acts as a backup in the running of Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the operating system of the Galaxy W. As for its storage capacity, the Galaxy W comes with an internal memory pegged at 2GB. This can further be beefed up to as much as 32GB by making use of the dedicated microSD card slot for instant memory expansion in the handset.

The display

In terms of its display, though the Galaxy W didn’t get a SuperAMOLED Plus display, the one that eats up the majority of its front panel is capable enough to blast out images that are very sharp and vibrant. The display of the Galaxy W has a diagonal of 3.7 inches and is of the capacitive touchscreen type with a 800 x 480 resolution and pixel density of 252 pixels per inch. A physical home button along with two other touch-sensitive buttons are just below the display while sensors that add to the functionality of the Galaxy W are all integrated onto the device.

The shooters

The shooting department of the Galaxy W is pretty standard for a device in its class. It has a rear-facing camera with a 5MP resolution and this shooter has autofocus along with an LED flash. It can also capture images of up to 2592 x 1944 pixels and record 720p videos at 30 frames per second. A VGA snapper on the other hand is found at its front panel and this shooter is designed for use during video chats.

The bottom line

There is not much to say about the Samsung Galaxy W really. It obviously isn’t the Samsung Galaxy S II but the handset has its positive attributes as well. It may not be as classy-looking as the competition but the components under its hood more than make up for whatever shortcomings it has in the face value department. And the best part? It comes at a price point that will not break the bank.

Is the Samsung Galaxy W i8150 the best mid priced phone in the market?  In terms of pure speed it is. It combines the fast 1.4GHz processor with fast HSDPA 14.4 Mbps connectivity.
LG Optimus Black. It primary competitor, the Android powered LG Optimus Black has a slower processor/graphic combo under the hood with its 1 GHz Cortex-A8 processor, PowerVR SGX530 GPU and only supports up to HSDPA 7.2 Mbps connectivity. Given both Globe and Smart are rolling out HSDPA+ 21.1 Mbps networks the additional speed will be useful in the Philippines.

Still at Php15,990 the LG Optimus Black has a lot to offer despite not being the speed king. It has a larger more vibrant 4-inch (700-nit) 480 x 800 IPS display protected by Gorilla Glass. The LG Optimus Black has double the amount of user available internal storage at 1GB. Physically, the LG Optimus Black has a ultra slim 9.2 mm thin profile. The Samsung Galaxy W i8150 is not a thick phone, but at 11.5 mm it is thicker.

Basically it comes down to the larger screen and slimmer profile versus processor and internet connection speed. I would think the Samsung Galaxy W i8150, being a newer phone would have a better chance of being upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich, but don't count on that. With only 512MB of user storage, that might not happen. Still, Samsung was working on the Galaxy Nexus, it would be disappointing if they did not give this phone just enough room for an ICS upgrade. The ROM is actually 2GB, as big as the LG Optimus Black. So keep your fingers crossed.

It is a though call, and the Samsung Galaxy W i8150's processing and internet speed is tempting, but the absence of Gorilla Glass protection and the larger screen of the LG Optimus Black give it enough advantages. Let's call this one a draw.
HTC Desire S. The HTC Desire S price has gone down to Php19,000. The Desire S compares  better in terms of speed as against the Samsung Galaxy W i8150. Both run on Qualcomm scorpion processors and Adreno 205 graphics. The Samsung Galaxy W i8150 has a 40% advantage in clock speed, the HTC Desire S has 50% more RAM. Both phone support HSDPA 14.4 Mbps.

Between the Samsung Galaxy W i8150 and the HTC Desire S, very little separates them specifications wise. The HTC Desire S will Php3,000 cost you more which makes the Samsung Galaxy W i8150. Your Php3,000 will buy you a premium looking and well built aluminum unibody case, Gorilla Glass protected display, HTC Sense which is the best manufacturer built Android user interface and a bundled 8GB SD card.

HTC has not confirmed that the HTC Desire S is getting upgraded to ICS. But among the HTC Desire S, Samsung Galaxy W i8150 and  LG Optimus Black I think the Desire S has the best chance at being upgrated to ICS. Just don't blame me if the HTC Desire S is not updated to ICS, it is my best guess and nothing more than that.

Gigabyte S1080 2 300x189 Gigabyte S1080 slate PC on pre order in the United States
Gigabyte S1080 tablet has an Intel Atom N570 1.66GHz dual core, 2GB RAM, SD card slot, and a 320GB hard drive. Such as connectivity, has 802.11 b / g / n WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet LAN, one USB 3.0 port, Bluetooth 3.0, and D-Sub outputs.

Design and construction

With its vital stats of 270 x 173 x 14.94 mm and weight of 895 grams, the Gigabyte S1080 can forget about its plans of joining a tablet beauty pageant. It doesn’t have the sexy, slim and streamlined profile we commonly see among other available tablets like the iPad or the HTC Flyer.

The Gigabyte S1080 has boxy kind of design that reminds you of the box-type cars of the 80s. It has rounded edges though to soften up its appearance a bit but makes it look business-like and work-related. The finish of the Gigabyte S1080 is done in matte black and is able to resist fingerprints to a certain extent.

Unfortunately, the Gigabyte S1080 also has design boo-boos such as the placement of its fan and heat vent along with its constructions that left the screws of the device exposed.

Under the hood

The Gigabyte S1080 is capable indeed if you take a look at the components that lurk under its hood. It’s got a dual core Intel Atom N570 processor running at 1.66GHz and packs 2GB of DDR3 RAM that works in tandem with the processor.

No dedicated GPU can be found on the Gigabyte S1080 but its massive 5400rpm 320GB hard drive is more than enough to handle most of your data-safekeeping needs. Despite the large storage space, it still packs an SD card slot for memory expansion should the 320GB prove insufficient.

The display

The Gigabyte S1080 sports an LED-backlit 10.1-inch capacitive multi-touch display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. In addition to that, its retail package comes with an included matte screen protector for the display of the tablet for reduced glare when using the device outdoors or under direct sunlight.

The features set of the Gigabyte S1080 is something that it should be proud of though. Aside from the usual integrated speakers, built-in microphone, Bluetooth 3.0 support, 1.3-megapixel webcam, 3.5mm headphone jack, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, SD card reader, RJ45 port and USB 2.0 port, it also comes with a USB 3.0 port.

Yes folks, you heard right. USB 3.0, for real. Just when a USB 3.0 port is rare enough that it can only be found in high-end laptops, we see the Gigabyte S1080 already packing one. This is something that makes it stand out from the multitude of tablets we have to choose from today.

For its operating system, the Gigabyte S1080 runs Windows 7 Home Premium and does a pretty decent job of doing so. More than a few people though would have difficulties in transitioning to a touch-based Windows operating system because of the lack of right-click and contextual menus in the Gigabyte S1080. However, like mentioned earlier, the processor – ram combination manage to handle Windows 7 Home Premium pretty well. No complaints here.

Battery life

The Gigabyte S1080 packs a 4000 mAh Lithium-Polymer power pack and real world tests show that the battery can supply juice to the Gigabyte S1080 for up to 5 hours of usage on a single charge before it gets all the juice squeezed out. A bit disappointing if you ask me so never leave home without the device’s charger is all I can say.

The bottom line

It’s hard comparing the Gigabyte S1080 to other currently available tablets today because of its different attributes. However, taking a look at device gives off the impression that it is very capable notwithstanding the less-than-aesthetically pleasing looks. At $650 US, people might probably go for a full-sized notebook that packs a better feature set and has a lot more power than the Gigabyte S1080.

The LG Optimus LTE has a 4.5-inch True HD IPS display, a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p video, and, of course, 4G internet connectivity. That souped-up package has recently been announced as heading to Bell in Canada, where it'll launch exclusively with the carrier and make good use of its new LTE network. Having started selling in Korea a few weeks ago, the Optimus LTE has now become the fastest-selling LG smartphone to date, so clearly its loaded spec sheet is speaking a language we can all understand.
Bell is the first North American carrier to announce it'll have this Gingerbread-running Galaxy Nexus competitor, leaving us to ponder which of its southerly neighbors will follow suit. AT&T, would you have any interest in a smartphone with enough grunt to stand up to Verizon's Ice Cream Sandwich phone? The Optimus LTE is shipping with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) preloaded, but a recent picture picked up by Pocketnow shows it with an ICS lock screen and it's relatively obvious that LG will want to keep up with the Samsung-built Galaxy Nexus. If you want evidence of how deep the rivalry between the two Korean companies runs, the LG press release specifically identifies the HD resolution on the Optimus LTE as 1280 x 720 x 3 RGB, poking a big stick at the Pentile Matrix RGBG subpixel setup that Samsung employs.

LG’s LU6200 4G phone has been spotted live by Korea’s Daum. Some more details has been comes out like boasts a massive 4.5-inch display with 720p HD (720 x 1280 pixel) resolution. Some new pictures have surfaced of the phone have surfaced again, and this time you get a clearer look at the phone’s hardware. As shown, the hardware is still using Android 2.3.5 and may ship that way at first, other updated OS may later.

With the new pictures no new details have been revealed. But the features includes a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, it will feature a 4.5″ AH-IPS LCD with 720p HD resolution, and will have LTE connectivity. The photos also reveal an 8 megapixel main camera with a 1.3 megapixel forward-facing camera

The iPhone 3GS is identical to the iPhone 3G in terms of size and appearance. It weighs a little more (one ounce), but that is nothing major. If you put the two phones side by side you would not be able to tell them apart while in sleep mode. However, once you wake the phones up you do begin to see the difference. The new iPhone 3GS has a screen that looks crisper; the images seem sharper and the display a little more vivid. This is mostly due to the increased graphics power brought on by the PowerVR SGX Graphics chip, which has support for OpenGL ES 2.0.

Apple iPhone 3GS 16GB Smartphone
The PowerVR SGX is not the only new thing under the hood, though; Apple has thrown in a faster CPU running at 600MHz Vs the old 3G speed of 412MHz, while the memory in the phone has been doubled (256MB vs 128MB).

 Apple iPhone 3G S
The additional speed, memory and graphics processing means more complex applications, faster video response and of course better gaming.
Apple iPhone 3GS 16GB Smartphone
On the OS side of the house Apple has made some nice improvements. They have added in voice control, Multi-Media Messaging, tethering, a digital compass, improved video support, improved security, cut, copy and paste, video recording, geo-tagging (for photographs) and of course a landscape keyboard for texting and e-mail to list a few. But these are mostly surface additions; Apple has also fixed about 45 security issues with the iPhone OS that have been an ongoing concern

The competition
If not the iPhone 4, can I settle for the iPhone 3GS or iPhone 3G I've already got?
You can and, for the most part, you'll be fine, as you'll be getting the new iOS 4 update, for free on 21 June, 3 days before the official iPhone 4 launch. If you've got the iPhone 3G, then you'll still get the OS update but not all the features will work. That said, an upgrade will get you a new camera, new video, a faster device, a tougher design, that gyro for gaming and the video camera for FaceTime (yawn).

What are the alternative smartphones on the market to the iPhone 4?

There are plenty. From HTC we would recommend you check out the HTC Desire, the Nexus One, and possibly the HTC Legend. From Motorola the Motorola Milestone, and the just-about-to-be-released Motorola Milestone XT720. From Nokia, the N900. From Samsung, possibly the Galaxy S. And, if you're willing to wait another 6 months, a plethora of yet-to-be-confirmed Windows Phone 7 handsets.

I've just bought an iPad, should I bother with the iPhone 4?

That's the toughest one yet. You've clearly found enough reasons to buy a device that you probably didn't need, but at least this one will allow you to talk with and see your loved ones, making it, possibly, easier to justify.

If you do, all you've got to worry about is that your mate with an Android handset will be calling you fanboy for the rest of your days. Then again you could just slap him for trying to dictate what phone you use and tell him it's all about Open Source (your choice that is).

Just weeks ago Viewsonic announced a dual SIM handset, the V350 Android device. This model is as basic as it gets and it comes with the already antique Android 2.2 Froyo, but at least it can use two SIM cards at the same time.
These specs aren’t all that impressive, reminding us of the good old HTC Hero, but many months have passed since its release. The appeal here is the presence of the two SIM slots, good call from Viewsonic. Would you rather use two phones or this one?
